Jaron 'Boots' Ennis has a point to prove

The pressure is on for Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) as he makes the jump to 154 lbs.

In his first bid at the new weight class, he takes on Uisma Lima (14-1, 10 KO’s) on October 11 - streamed live on DAZN.

Ennis has long been touted as America’s next superstar, but he has yet to have a career-defining fight to set him apart from his fellow fighting countrymen. 

His move up to 154 is about more than just belts; it provides an opportunity for him to carve out his legacy and chase fights against some of boxing’s biggest names.

Expectations are sky-high. Lima won’t be mistaken for a world beater, so anything less than dominant from Ennis will spark doubts about whether he can truly thrive at 154. 

Especially with Eddie Hearn chasing a superfight against Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, expectations are high for Ennis to put on a spectacular boxing display at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The 28-year-old appears to be taking the pressure in his stride, revealing on Matchroom’s Flash Knockdown podcast that we will witness a statement performance from the American. 

“I’m ready to make a big statement in the 154 division. With the extra seven pounds, I’m feeling great—every time I want to put on a better performance. 154 is mine.”

“They’re going to see. When I handle business on October 11th, you’re going to see. It’s going to be an explosive knockout,” said Ennis.

While Crawford is clearly the end goal, should ‘Boots’ get past Lima in October, it will likely not be the next step to light middleweight glory for the undefeated star. 

His team are reportedly targeting Vergil Ortiz Jr. for early 2026. Ortiz Jr. is fighting Erickson Lubin on November 8. 

If both take care of business, Ennis-Ortiz sets the stage perfectly, the kind of clash that could fast-track ‘Boots’ to the showdown he craves with Crawford.
