Eddie Hearn plots big crossover fight as next move for Katie Taylor

Eddie Hearn has planned huge next move for Katie Taylor to try and achieve global domination in boxing with Cris Cyborg earmarked as potential opponent

Eddie Hearn wants a huge global move in finding a potential opponent for world champion Katie Taylor, plotting a megafight against Cris Cyborg as a crossover into boxing, with Katie Taylor having nearly achieved all that she possibly can in boxing.

Rumours had circulated about an undisputed rematch for 'KT' with Jessica McCaskill  after she beat Cecilia Braekhus to become unified champion back in August, in addition to potential bouts against Chantelle Cameron and Natasha Jonas but Hearn is being more positively drawn to the idea of the Irish fighter taking on MMA star Cyborg.

The two-weight world champion defeated Delfine Persoon back in August at Fight Camp in a close rematch, and is now undisputed lightweight champion so several questions have been raised about the next fight for Taylor.

Hearn told Matchroom Youtube: " [Taylor] has only boxed once this year, and she would like to box twice this year, and it’s our aim to do that. She does have an outstanding mandatory with Miriam Gutierrez, the Spanish interim WBA world champion, and the WBA have been calling that for a while. They allowed the [Delphine] Persoon fight for undisputed, but we will have to deal with that at some stage. 

“Some people even talking about a potential Natasha Jonas fight, some people talking about a [Jessica] McCaskill fight, and also I think we have to start looking at those big crossover fights.

“I like a fight against Cyborg. A crossover fight. Cyborg is a very competent boxer as well, and I think that’s a huge, huge fight. Katie’s at the stage now where she’s achieved so much. 

“She boxed here for the undisputed, she filled out Madison Square Garden for the undisputed championship, she’s unified in Boston, she’s unified in Philadelphia, she’s boxed at Wembley stadium, she’s boxed at the Millennium stadium, she’s virtually done it all, so.”

Taylor has proven over and over again she is capable of dealing with the top level of female boxing, but with a new challenge potentially looming against a very physical aggressive Cyborg, the 34-year-old will try  and increase her stock value once more should the historical crossover fight be made.
