Dmitry Bivol expecting a speedy recovery following successful surgery on his arm

Former undisputed light-heavyweight ruler Dmitry Bivol is eyeing a ring return in December after undergoing elbow surgery.

The 35-year-old Russian champion offered a reassuring message to the global boxing community on his recovery, “Scheduled elbow surgery is behind me,” Bivol shared. “Everything went well. Thank you everyone for your support, messages, and kind words.”

The medical procedure was to fix a problem with his left elbow, which he will now enter into a period of rest and recovery. Bivol is eyeing a December return to complete the trilogy with his main rival, Artur Beterbiev.

Bivol has lost just once in his 26-bout pro career, which came in October 2024 in an undisputed match with AB. Beterbiev edged him on the cards via mixed decision, losing his WBA Super and IBO titles to the WBC, IBF, WBO, Ring champ. Four months later, Bivol reversed the decision to become undisputed himself.

17 months later and the trilogy still hasn't been finalised. Talks are ongoing, but if a deal can't be reached, then Bivol may decided to defend his current WBA, IBF and Ring titles to mandatory challenger Callum Smith instead.

GBN would like to wish Dmitry a speedy recovery.

DID YOU KNOW? Bivol was a naturally bigger and heavier kid growing up compared to an average-size boy of his age, which is how he developed his rangy, out-boxing style behind a lengthy jab.
