WBC #1 Dalton Smith secured his shot at the champion Alberto Puello with a dominant performance against Montreal man Germain.

The Sheffield star was sharp from the off, but missed with an uppercut and right hook from too far out. His defence was watertight, but Germain was able to pierce through the middle with a crisp jab in last seconds of the first.

The fight opened up in the second, both boxers letting their hands go. Smith landed a single left hook to drop Germain in the closing seconds.

Germain stayed positive and went on the assault still. After eating a big backhand right uppercut, Germain got on his bike for the rest of the third round.

In the sixth, the Brit slipped and rolled under around six to eight shots from Germain.

In the eighth round, Germain lost his footing and Smith chased him and sent him tumbling through the ropes.

By the 11th round, the WBC Silver titlist had landed 114 punches to Germain's 49. A one-two from Smith landed on Germain's shoulder and sent him over again.

Smith was gunning for the stoppage in the 12th, hitting Germain with a very low blow as he got a bit overexcited. Then, Smith scored a third knockdown with a simple little flick from his left hand.

The Canadian skipped away from Smith for the final moments to be able to hear the final bell after a one-sided, but competitive contest. Dalton won with scores of 119-105, 119-105, 117-107.

The 28-year-old 'Thunder' is now 18-0 with 13 KOs.
