Cutman Jorge Capetillo addresses Tyson Fury training camp rumours

Published On Friday, February 2, 2024By Global Boxing News

Cutman Jorge Capetillo spoke to Betway and revealed that while there are reports that Tyson Fury has been getting dropped in sparring, he has never seen the heavyweight world champion get knocked down in training.

Have you ever seen Tyson Fury knocked down in sparring?

JC: "No, I have never seen Tyson Fury get knocked down in a sparring session. I think sometimes people can make up stories, make a big drama and not even know what happened. There are many things that can happen in a sparring session for sure. There are many champions that have been dropped from bad positioning, a trip or a push, that is part of the game and comes with the territory.

"However, Tyson has never been dropped in sparring when I have been with him in the gym. He is not only an incredible talent, but he is also very tough and has a huge heart and I believe these are rumours which just aren’t true. Tyson is a big guy who has so much pride in his performances and trust me when I say, nobody has ever knocked down Fury or even hurt him in sparring.

"Tyson still has a tremendous craft and is a tremendous talent and I think we are going to see a better version this time against Oleksandr Usyk. What happened with Francis, it surprised him with his size and frame.

"Tyson is more conscious to display a better performance against Oleksandr Usyk. I believe not only his boxing skills, but his height, reach, speed and ring IQ will see him become undisputed champion. This is the fight the world wants to see, and I spoke to Tyson recently and he told me how he was in great spirits and was excited to put on the best performance of his career.

Why did Tyson underperform against Francis Ngannou?

JC: "Let me put it this way, sometimes MMA fighters can be awkward and have a different style so I think what really surprised Tyson was that Francis was so big and so strong and he didn’t realise this until he was in the ring with him.

"He should’ve boxed on the outside a little bit more but he wanted to perform and show Francis the power of a boxer. We saw not only a fighter but a man who is really strong in Francis Ngannou at 270lbs. It was a very good fight and he had to adjust to get the victory over Ngannou."

How do you see Joshua v Ngannou happening?

JC: "It wouldn’t surprise me if we see an upset as Francis Ngannou will have more confidence and we are in the heavyweight division and one punch can change anything in the fight.

"Anthony was brilliant in his last fight and not only physically but mentally he really grew and Joshua moved around and threw more punches. We will see how Francis can adjust to AJ and it’ll be fun to see how much Francis has learnt from the Tyson Fury fight and how he can apply his skills against Anthony Joshua."

Fury v AJ – how big would this fight be?

JC: "Tyson and AJ have been going in different directions but little by little they are getting closer to a fight and meeting in the ring. The UK fans and the boxing world deserve the fight and we can judge Joshua because of the losses but everyone can win or lose but he is a man who doesn’t quit and perseveres and that’s what makes a champion.

"He has a great chance to hype up a possible fight against Tyson Fury with a great performance against Francis Ngannou and God willing Tyson beats Oleksandr Usyk, this fight will be huge, and the hype will be massive."
