Collins loses to Lorente in rematch

Scotland's Nathaniel Collins suffered the first defeat of his professional career in a WBC world eliminator rematch with Cristobal Lorente in Glasgow.

Fighting in front of a home crowd at The Hydro, a split decision went against the 29-year-old Bearsden boxer, with the Spaniard winning by a unanimous 115-112, 115-112, 111-116 margin and consequently removing the WBC Silver title from the Brit.

The featherweight pair had contested a draw at the Braehead Arena in October and again went the full 12 rounds.

Scotsman Collins, who was undefeated before meeting Lorente for the second time, had his southpaw opponent down on the canvas in the sixth round, but the experienced former European champion demonstrated composure to recover quickly.

Lorente, 30, is now the mandatory challenger for the WBC title held by American Bruce Carrington.

Undercard

Royston Barney-Smith claimed British and Commonwealth super-featherweight titles by dropping Conor McIntosh three times in round two.

Dylan Arbuckle captured the British featherweight title with a fourth-round stoppage of unbeaten Nico Leivars.

Rising middleweight prospect Aston Brown was upset by Sam Gilley in the fifth round after a big right hand to the head and left hook to the body dropped the favourite. Another clinical combo soon after forced referee Bob Williams to jump in. "The Magic Man" called out Brad Pauls afterwards.

Another unbeaten prospect was shocked on the night when Marcus Sutherland was defeated by fellow unbeaten Irishman Lateef Bayo Alabi. The Nigerian-born Dubliner claimed the BUI Celtic featherweight strap unanimous decision win.

There were wins for Alex Arthur Jr, Reese Lynch, John Joe Carrigan, Machland Arthur, Drew Limond, John Thomson, Stephen Newns.
