Chris Eubank Jr could fight for the WBC world title following Conor Benn defeat

Chris Eubank Jr is back in the big leagues

Chris Eubank Jr. (35-4, 25 KO’s) last fought in November, brutally beaten by long-time rival Conor Benn (24-1,14 KO’s) in a rematch of their iconic April affair. 

Eubank won the first bout, though he looked miles off the pace when they met again. 

He looked drained in the ring, and following his fight revealed that he had been suffering from some health issues in the lead-up. 

However, the 36-year-old appears to be on the mend, and WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has hinted that big things may be on the horizon for the British fighter.

"Absolutely. Chris Eubank is a tremendous fighter. I believe he sacrificed too much with the weight and he's a natural fighter for that division. Great potential. Super fighter," WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports.

"He's a world-class fighter without a doubt."

If Eubank makes the move back to super middleweight, he could find himself in line for a shot at the WBC strap. 

The sanctioning body recently elevated Christian Mbilli to world champion status. With Canelo Alvarez currently ranked as the number one contender, a megafight with the Mexican could be on the horizon. 

If Eubank makes the move to 168 lbs, an eventual fight with the winner looks likely. 

Speaking on Mbilli, Sulaiman revealed that he is excited by the Cameroonian-Frenchman's prospects.

"We're going to address the situation in the following weeks to see what is coming up for Mbilli and the division. Of course, Canelo, [Jaime] Munguia, Lester Martinez, Luka Plantic. There are so many fighters who can make great fights for the champion, Mbilli.

"A tremendous kid, great story behind [Mbilli], from Cameroon to France to Canada. He won the WBC Continental Americas championship, eight title defences. Then he won the Interim title, defended it in the fight of the year against Lester Martinez and the WBC ordered his fight with [Hamzah] Sheeraz. When Sheeraz took another direction, the WBC voted in favour to name him the WBC world champ."
