Chantelle Cameron explains the one reason why she has vacated her WBC world title

The World Boxing Council received official notification that Chantelle Cameron has decided to vacate her WBC Super Lightweight World Title.

WBC interim super lightweight world champion Chantelle Cameron opted to vacate her title in order to show her commitment to advancing equality in women’s boxing, specifically as it pertains to women fighting under the same rules as men which includes three-minute rounds for title fights.

“Women’s boxing has come a long way, but there’s still progress to be made,” explained Chantelle Cameron. “I’ve always believed in equality, and that includes the choice to fight equal rounds, equal opportunities, and equal respect. I’m proud of my accomplishment in becoming a WBC champion, but it’s time to take a stand for what’s right and for the future of the sport.”

Born on May 14, 1991, in Northampton, England, Cameron has had a remarkable career under the WBC banner. In October 2020, she captured the WBC Super Lightweight World Title by defeating Adriana dos Santos Araújo.

She went on to unify all four major titles and defended her crown against elite opponents. In 2023, she suffered a narrow loss to Katie Taylor, whom she had previously defeated. In July 2024, she regained the WBC Interim Title and successfully defended it in 2025.

Cameron’s decision comes at a moment when she continues to advocate for equality and fairness in women’s boxing — a stance that transcends the sport itself.
