Boxing News Now have chosen their Boxer of the Year for 2019

Boxing News Now's team of writers came together in the last week before Christmas to decide upon their 'Boxer of the Year' for 2019.

3. Naoya Inoue (19-0, 16KOs)
World Boxing Super Series winner and won IBF, WBA ‘Super’ The Ring world bantamweight titles

The 'Monster's' devastating path to the World Boxing Super Series final was destructive, with first and second round KO victories over opponents with a combined record of 39-1. In the final, he was taken to the final bell for just the third time in his career by four-weight world champion Nonito Donaire in what was an action-packed, fight of the year candidate. Inoue won via unanimous decision to unify the IBF and WBA bantamweight titles.

 

2. Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KOs)
Won WBO light-heavyweight title and defended WBC, WBA, IBF middleweight titles

A daring move up to light-heavyweight and a patient, risky, clever game plan saw Canelo defeat 'Krusher' Kovalev to win the WBO 175lbs belt become a four-weight world champion.

 

1. Josh Taylor (16-0, 12KOs)
World Boxing Super Series winner and unified and lineal world super-lightweight champion

'The Tartan Tornado' Josh Taylor produced fireworks in the WBSS final with fellow unbeaten world champion Regis Prograis in what was a clear contender for the fight of the year. Taylor won on points to unify the super-lightweight division.
