Anthony Joshua is the bookies favourite for Jake Paul next

AJ now 4/1 favourite with Tommy Fury 6/1

Former two-time unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is considered the likeliest next opponent for Jake Paul following the American’s victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the weekend, according to William Hill.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer just defeated ex-WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez over 10 rounds on June 28 in Anaheim. The 39-year-old Mexican had only fought once in almost four years and was unable to land a single punch in the first round.

Despite the underwhelming victory, some of boxing's biggest names have been flying around for Paul's potential next opponents.

Former heavyweight champion AJ is the 4/1 favourite to face Paul next after an extended period out of the ring. Tommy Fury is next in the market at 6/1 to make a rematch with Paul after their first fight in 2023.

Other names that Paul could be set to face include Jean Pascal (8/1), Badou Jack (9/1), Carl Froch (10/1) and Tony Bellew (10/1).

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Following Jake Paul’s victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, speculation is rising about who ‘The Problem Child’ will fight next.

“Paul could be in line for a blockbuster clash with former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, and the British boxer heads the list of his likely opponents at 4/1.

“Tommy Fury, who inflicted the only loss of Paul’s career to date, is 6/1 to step into the ring with Paul once again, while former top boxers Tony Bellew and Carl Froch are both priced at 10/1 for a showdown with Paul.”

28-year-old Paul has even confirmed that he and AJ have been discussing the fight between them, “Anthony Joshua is an insane fight. But I want that challenge. We’ve been dm-ing back and forth, he wants to make it happen. He called me up and it’s looking very likely for next year.” read more...
