Anthony Joshua shares clip of him back in the gym

Anthony Joshua has shared a short clip of him back in the gym, training again. The former two-time world heavyweight champion is shown hitting the pads, but it appears to be a light session, with no gloves or handwraps on, just a little shake-out and move-around.

19 days after the crash, Joshua posted a video on Snapchat, with the short message: "mental strength therapy", at the bottom of the clip.

The 36-year-old from Watford broke the longest hiatus of his boxing career when he knocked out Jake Paul in Miami just days before Christmas last year. But then tragedy struck when he was visiting family in Nigeria just before the New Year when the jeep he was travelling in collided with a stationary truck, killing two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif 'Latz' Ayodele.

Now that the funerals have taken place, AJ has seemingly decided to get back into the gym to resume his career again, although there hasn't been any official statements on this.

Joshua's uncle, Adedamola Joshua, came out on January 7 to tell reporters that his nephew had retired from boxing, but the claims have not been confirmed.

Matchroom boss, Eddie Hearn, made a statement where he said AJ needed time to process what had happened and to deal with his grief, also adding that no one would blame if he did hang up his gloves.

The fight with Jake Paul reassured Joshua that he still had ambitions in boxing, admitting that he had been contemplating retirement following his September 2024 KO defeat to Daniel Dubois. His latest training camp and KO victory reinforced his desire to continue, but then the near-death experience on December 29 knocked him for six and saw him hospitalised for two days.

The brave boxer, who has won Olympic gold medals and heavyweight world titles, appears to have made the decision to continue with his career, but that has yet to be confirmed.

British rival Tyson Fury also took to social media today to tease an imminent announcement on his boxing career, simply writing the words: "2026 let's go, massive announcement incoming." This would suggest that he has a fight date and opponent booked in, with strong rumours placing Arslanbek Makhmudov as the frontrunner for 'The Gypsy King's' comeback.

A day for announcements, world champion Fabio Wardley also declared that WBO #7 Derek Chisora is now the frontrunner for his maiden title defence.
