Amanda Serrano overcomes badly-swollen right eye to retain belts against tough Tellez

Amanda Serrano retains WBA and WBO featherweight world titles after unanimous decision victory over Reina Tellez and Stephanie Han defeated Holly Holm on points.

Seven-weight world champion Amanda Serrano had to overcome a badly-swollen, painful looking right eye in a homecoming world title win over undefeated challenger Reina Tellez.

The Puerto Rican record-breaking boxer returned to featherweight after losing her trilogy clash to rival Katie Taylor last summer and she was made to work hard for a unanimous decision win to retain her WBA and WBO belts in San Juan.

22-year-old American, Tellez, who stepped in as a late replacement last month, inflicted the large swelling around Serrano's eye in the fifth round, but the seasoned champion displayed her vast experience by responding with classy combinations.

Serrano was cheered on by YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul, who works alongside her on Most Valuable Promotions, as she sealed a wide victory with scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93.

"It's been two years since I fought at this weight, so the next fights are going to be much, much better," Serrano told DAZN.

She added: "There's a lot of new girls, new champions at featherweight so that's a nice thing to see. Maybe one day we can all get together and fight each other."

Prior to the thrilling fight, Tellez missed weight by 1/2lbs, so the titles were on the line for Serrano only. Despite the failure to make weight on the scales, "The Real Deal" shared support for her opponent, stating, "I was taught & brought up the right way from my understanding. I Will Not under any circumstances belittle an opponent or be unfair. This is boxing, we are women. Our hormones act up sometimes. If you don’t make weight & it’s by less than a lb I’m not tripping. I don’t want No money, I don’t want you to cut Anything! If it’s not ok by the commission it’s on them. I’m not bothering anyone. It’s not like she disrespectfully came a few lbs over. Let’s give them a War Reina We Can Do It!!"

Stephanie Han vs Holly Holm

On the undercard, Holly Holm was beaten on points by Stephanie Han after their WBA lightweight world title fight was stopped in the seventh round following a clash of heads.

Han suffered a nasty cut on her forehead and was unable to continue, but retained her title by unanimous decision which meant that Holm fell short in her bid to become a four-division champion.

Ebanie Bridges vs Alexis Araiza Mones

Australian star Ebanie Bridges was defeated in her comeback fight by 35-year-old Texan Alexis Araiza Mones.

The scores were 78-74 x2 and 80-72. The third defeat of her 12-fight record could spell the end of her boxing career.
