Agit Kabayel hopes a win over Damian Knyba will set up a world title shot: ‘This is my dream’

Agit Kabayel is determined to rise to the top of the heavyweight division

It's been a glittering couple of years for Agit Kabayel (26-0, 18 KO’s). The German has cemented himself as a top heavyweight talent following brutal stoppage victories over the likes of Zhilei Zhang, Frank Sanchez and Arslanbek Makhmudov. 

The WBC interim champion is set to defend his belt on January 10 against Damian Knyba (17-0, 11 KO’s). 

Kabayel will be a huge favourite heading into the matchup, with Knyba seen as more of a fringe fighter than an elite heavyweight opponent. 

Nevertheless, the undefeated Pole will be hoping to upset the odds and catapult himself into heavyweight stardom. 

Assuming Kabayel gets the job done, it would appear only a matter of time until he finally receives a world title call-up. 

Speaking to DAZN, the 33-year-old revealed his eyes are still set on taking on the division's very best.

“Motivation is good but I think in one month, two months — the motivation is not for a long time,” Kabayel said. 

“Everything is discipline and I have discipline, I train very hard for my dream and I hope one time I will be a world champion. This is my dream.

“The people give me the name…say Kabayel is the boogeyman in the heavyweight division. All guys in the heavyweight division will not fight with me. But, you know, the situation is not easy, Usyk give the belt and now is WBO champion, Fabio Wardley. And I don’t know, we will see after my next fight what is the situation. But first of all, I fight with Damian and after my fight maybe we will see what comes in the future.”
